Pyramid sort

Write down what you’d change or what you need, then place each note on the level of the pyramid where it lives. A note that fits nowhere is useful too, because it shows where the pyramid is missing something.

Where does this live on the pyramid?

Add a note, then select it on the board and click the level where it belongs. You can also use the menu next to each note.

  1. Set the levels. Name them on the Levels tab, then sign in on the Teacher page, create a class and post its student link. Students start with your levels and no notes.
  2. Alone. Each student writes notes, places them on the pyramid under a first name or class code and presses Send to class.
  3. As a class. Collect work gathers everything into the Class view, which shows where the notes landed, which levels nobody used and how many notes fit nowhere. Untick any send that shouldn’t count, such as a test. Make the class board puts every note on one pyramid, so the class can argue about where they belong and move them. The board is saved to the class as you change it.

Ask students to use a first name or a class code, never a last name. The Class view and the class board hide names until you choose to show them, so both can go on the projector.

A needs pyramid orders what people expect from a service, from the foundation they take for granted up to what makes it feel made for them. Placing real needs on it tests the pyramid as much as it sorts the needs.

Watch for three things. Which level collects the most notes, which level stays empty (a foundation nobody mentions is often one everyone trusts), and which notes fit nowhere.

Everything you enter stays in your browser unless you press Send to class. Your board is kept in this browser as you work. To keep it safely, or move it to another computer, use Download file on the Share tab and open the file later, or copy the code or the link to this board. None of these is stored on the site. A class link carries only the levels, and the Class view reads the codes pasted into it without sending them anywhere.

When a teacher runs a class, pressing Send to class stores three things on chock.llc: the name you typed (a first name or class code), your board, and the time you sent it. No email, no IP address. The teacher sees it after signing in, and everything in the class is deleted on the class’s end date, or sooner if the teacher deletes the class. If you clear your browser, open the student link again and press Get back what I sent.
